No Snow Yet!

It’s snowing on my blog but it’s not snowing here yet…. it’s been cold for us but as it warms up the snow should come….. that being said, it is cold enough to take the moisture out of the air and make black ice on the roads…. my theory is that if we see snow, we compensate our driving habits – we can’t see snow so the roads aren’t slippery right?  We’ve had a lot of accidents around here, many caused by black ice,  so maybe that will make us all think about slowing down and driving for the conditions.

I have still more quilts to show you!  This is Noeline’s Minkee Quilt.  She sent me some of Benartex’s new Minkee Tween.  I had to add batting and quilted with some flowers and loops – very simple.  The quilting sinks right into the Minkee and it is sooooo soft, plush and pretty.

This is another one that Noeline sent;  it’s a split 9-patch out of batiks and the backing is Moda’s Fireside, again soft and cuddly, great for these chilly days.

Then we made up a quick tree skirt.  My friend Suzanne is the Executive Director for the Castlegar Hospice Society, and they have a fundraising campaign every year at Christmas where they do a ‘Memorial Tree’.  You can make a donation and remember a loved one by putting their name on the tree.  This year, they have added a Pet Memorial Tree.  We did a tree skirt using the “12 Dog Days of Christmas” panel as our donation to the display to remember Miss Vita and Levi.

Next we have Brenda’s quilt, she made for some sailors that she knows.  The whole quilt was paper-pieced and there are different lighthouses, sailboats, tugboats and even seagulls!  Nice colour choices…and the added blocks in the borders – great detail.

And here are two more of the Border Creek Double Cross Mystery Quilt that we did last year….. Cathy S made these two for Christmas gifts, one for a daughter and the other for her brother in law…. great fabric choices – what a cool contrast between the two quilts!

Stay Tuned!  We are working on our Class Schedule for 2010!!!!!!  There are going to be some great classes.  We really only have room for four people at a time, so we’ll have lots of opportunities for a date that suits your schedule.  And if there is a date that you and your quilting friends can get together and have something specific that you’d like to learn, just let me know!  We’ll fix you right up….

At the moment, plans are to have a class in “Quilt As You Go”, ” X’s and O’s”, Bargello, Clothesline Baskets – both a beginner class and then a more involved method for different shapes of baskets and other items such as Bathmats, Boxes and Briefcases!  We’ll also do some Jelly Roll/ Bali Pop quilts and my favourite, Celtic blocks….. a great one to combine with the Quilt as You Go technique….. AND  BAGS, BAGS and MORE BAGS.  We’ll do a different bag demo every month – Second Saturday of every month come by the Quiltworx at 11AM and see how that month’s bag is done…. there will be patterns available too!
