What classes would you like to take?  Have a friend that wants to learn too?  Just need a day away from the house and want to come and try something new?  Let me know, we need at least two people up to as many as 4 and we can have a class!

Here’s a quilt put together by a group of women that ride motorcycles for one of their birthdays.  Family and friends each do a block and these ones are very creative!

and….. the Castlegar Quilters Guild had some fabric donated and they used it to make over 50 pillowcases!  We added a few that had been donated by generous quilters, added it to the One Million Pillowcase Challenge counter and donated them to our local Christmas Hampers – a total of 58.

And I  made Christmas stockings for my family in Calgary and I was able to get Christmas into boxes and off in plenty of time – a first for me!

Between Christmas and New Years, I was able to quilt two of the “Flamingo Challenge” quilts.  Approximately 6 years ago, I had quilters take a pizza box that contained 4 different fabrics and asked them to make their favourite blocks to finish at 10″.  In exchange I quilted for them.  So, I had about 500 blocks to make into bedspreads for the Motel rooms.  Linda Chm made me enough blocks that worked up into a quilt top that got quilted when a guest wanted the existing quilt from her bed to take home.  I didn’t have another one to fit that bed so I had to get that one quilted that day.  A year ago, Linda asked me how those quilts were going and took a stack of blocks home and made up two  more tops for me.  I finally got them quilted and bound…..

Hedy made this Moonglow quilt for a friend of hers, could I be your friend Hedy?  What a wonderful gift!

And Cheryl C did a ‘Two-For’  She got two quilts quilted as one…. she’s also getting lots of projects finished up that have been in her sewing room for a while, so we quilted one onto the back of another….. it is a real trick to get the one on the back perfectly centred to the one on the front, we can always get really close, but never guarantee that it will be exact…..

So, now I have to get some bookwork done, get prepared for upcoming classes and continue to quilt and quilt and quilt…… We still have spaces open for the Strata Star on Saturday January 21st, and the Stuck on Curves Saturday February 4th.   We may have a Celtic class on Thursday January 19th or 26th or both if we have enough interest.  Friday, January 13th is a Beginner Basket class and there is one spot left in that one.  All it takes is two people (up to 4) with the same date available to take the same class…… just let me know!

It is the Celtic Wave, a Judy Niemeyer pattern.  All paper pieced in fabulous greens and blues, the darkest fabric has some purples in it too.  Spectacular!

Wait, that’s the Back…. it is REALLY quilted as you can see!

Wow!  I hope that the Judy Niemeyer quilt I have been picking away at for 4 years turns out half as nice as Nola’s 4 month quilt!  By the way Nola, many people have asked if you would adopt them….. me too please!

Now, some more quilts for you – This is Karen’s quilt, she made it up for her kids….pretty cool colours and design – she even knew she wanted it quilted with spirals….

Cheryl C made this Thimbleberries quilt many years ago…. and finally decided to get it quilted.  We did feathers around the border and used Monopoly thread in the centre to do an all over feather so that we wouldn’t take away from her wonderful piecing!

 Here are some MORE fabrics that arrived yesterday…. they keep on just showing up here…. even though we are out of space.  It’s my fault, the Trend Tex rep was here yesterday and has ensured that there will be more coming.  She’s very persuasive, rumour has it she twisted my arm until I gave in and placed an order.  Even in a blurry picture, these batiks are begging to go home with you.

Leona made a table topper for herself (I think) using the Starlit Tree Skirt pattern that Elaine taught us a few years ago, leave out the hole and you’ve got a round quilt….

This is the quilt Leona made for her Great Granddaughter – all pinwheels and triangles.

These are Sue’s Quilts, gorgeous batiks, we put hearts on it in bright pink threads.  And her Christmas quilt, great for cuddling on the couch with her new teeny granddaughter!

This is Lauren’s Applique Quilt, she added some extra batting under  the flowers for some extra whimsy.

Lauren also made this quilt in her beginner class, great colour choices make it rich and yummy! 

Here are some pictures from the class we had this week, no, you did not miss anything, these gals saw something they wanted to make and asked me to do a class.  Just a hint, because I am soooooo bad at getting organized, if you have something you’d like to try, let me know and we’ll come up with a date and do a class – better than waiting for me to get a schedule together.  That being said, I do have some classes in mind for January/February, I will post it on the class schedule page when I’m ready.

Anyhow, we did the Strata Star from Ruth Eckersley’s pattern, available in the store and really simple to put together in either the large or the small.

Here’s mine (finished), and Cathie used the fabric that she just loves…. and added six more, it’ll look fabulous in her kitchen.

Cheryl did Christmas fabrics in hers, red and green and golds. And June used some Christmas fabrics tool, a little pop of red with her black, ivory and golds, she did the Large size, using eight fabrics.

Big Weekend in the Kootenays… Looking for something to do or see?  Friday and Saturday has the Selkirk Spinners and Weavers Annual Show and Sale at the Quality Inn in Castlegar Fri 4-9 and Sat 9-4.

Kootenay Gallery’s Christmas Show and Sale opens Friday at 7 and goes on until December 24.  The gallery is open 9 – 5, 7 days a week.  Local artisans – cool stuff.

Windborne B&B has an Art Show and Sale this weekend, Saturday and Sunday they are at 3900 Broadwater Road in Robson, it goes from 10 -4 both days and features many local artists.

The Station Museum Gift shop has lots of locally produced unique gift ideas…you can call 365-6440 for hours.

And Flamingo Quiltworx has a wonderful selection of ideas for the quilter, artist and appreciator of beautiful things too!  We are open 11 – 5 Tuesday through Saturday…Gift Certificates are available in any denomination!  If there’s a special book that you are looking for or a bundle of fat quarters, let me know and I can put it aside for your loved ones when they come Christmas shopping for you!
